Apollo Colombo Hospital, Sri Lanka
Scenario – There was a need for advanced and quality healthcare delivery in the neighboring country of Sri Lanka and patients had to travel to hospitals in India, Singapore and other countries for availing advanced and sophisticated medical procedures.
Intervention – The Apollo Hospitals Group came together with Lanka Hospitals Corporation LLC of Sri Lanka to address the need and create a world class tertiary care hospital at Colombo, the capital city. Apollo Global Consultancy conceptualized the 500 bed super specialty healthcare project catering to the Sri Lankan population, prepared the business plan and provided the entire gamut of expertise required to set up the hospital. The services were provided along the areas of Hospital Planning and Hospital design, Medical equipment planning, procurement & installation, HR planning, recruitment & training, Information technology, telemedicine and Start up & Commissioning services. In the first phase, 350 beds were commissioned in 24 months as scheduled. More than 1200 personnel were recruited, trained and deployed. Apollo Hospitals, Colombo with an investment of over USD 30 million, became operational as scheduled in 2002.
The Impact – Within 5 months of commissioning, the hospital achieved a dominant position in Colombo with an average occupancy level of 75% and over 450 out patient visits a day. |
